The coast of Sweden in the background. The new Copenhagen Opera House (inaugurated January 2005) at the waterfront in the port of Copenhagen is the national opera of Denmark and one of the most modern opera houses in the world - and the most expensive ever built. It is located on the island of Holmen in the centre of Copenhagen just opposite the Amalienborg Palace (not in picture). The Opera House is designed by the Danish architect Henning Larsen and is a gift from Maersk whose headquarter building can be seen leftmost on the opposite bank.
